How did SocialCurrent get started?

SocialCurrent started when a co-worker brought some homemade chicken soup to the office for a sick friend, that single act of kindness was instantly noticed and inspired others to do the same. This small act of kindness opened our eyes to look at what was happening around us with a different perspective. We realized that people make the world a better place every day and that these actions are often overlooked and in some ways invisible to others but truly make a difference in people's lives.

From that initial spark, our ad hoc crew worked to bring this idea to life. Friends, technologists, companies, and organizations joined in and donated resources to help turn this idea into a reality. Now that we've gotten it started, we're looking to you, the community at large, to help us innovate and grow SocialCurrent.

Who are we?

We are a very small team based in Silicon Valley of software engineers, marketing managers, product developers and designers passionate about bringing civics, philanthropy, and altruism into the forefront of social media and Internet technologies.

How does it work?

It's simple! First, start by joining SocialCurrent today and explore how others are helping to change the world! Once you've seen how people are helping, know that you too can start a Current about anything you feel passionate about. Currents can take many forms. Some people plant trees, some people build houses, some people donate clothing, some people volunteer/support at non profit organizations, and some people (like us) create technology. There is no right or wrong way to help out - you define it because it starts with you!
